600 – Visitor Visa

This type of visitor visa can be granted for 3, 6 or 12 months.
A visa applicant’s family member who is an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident can also sponsor the applicant for a long term (12 months – family stream) visitor visa.
While holding this visa, a person is not allowed to work and can study or attend a training for no longer than 3 months.

Other conditions such as requirement to maintain adequate health insurance, ineligibility to apply for further visa while being onshore in Australia and maximum stay of no more than 12 months within an 18-month period might be imposed at the time of visa grant.

Citizens from certain countries might be required to undertake health checks and provide evidence of means to support themselves financially for their visit to Australia.

601 Electronic Travel Authority Visa (ETA) and 651 -eVisitor
These visas are for tourist or business activity such as making business or employment enquiry, participation in conference, trade fair or seminar.

Citizens who hold ETA-eligible passports can apply for the 601 Visa, while those who are nationals from the countries mentioned in this specific list can apply for the 651 Visa.
These visas are quite similar to one another and there is also an overlap with regards to the eligible nationals who can avail them.

Upon grant, both these visas are valid for 12 months and a holder can stay for a maximum period of 3 months at a time in Australia.

Holder of these visa are not allowed to work and can only engage in a business visitor activity, can study or attend a training for no longer than 3 months, should be free from Tuberculosis at the time of entry to Australia.

Also, the holder should not have any criminal convictions that are 12 months or more in duration at the time of travel to or entry into Australia.
