The Covid-19 pandemic which has disrupted lives and economies worldwide is well under control in Australia and most states have already opened their borders for domestic inter state travellers.
International travel to Australia has also resumed to some extent, as flights from New Zealand have started to some of the states. Plans are also well under way to open another travel bubble with countries that have
efficiently managed Covid-19 pandemic such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea and some Pacific nations.
Overall, things look quite positive especially due to announcements of Covid-19 vaccination trials and programs worldwide which will ultimately bring a positive spin on Australian immigration.
Bearing this in mind, below mentioned are some new updates with regards to Australian immigration.
Free English Language Tuition For Partner Visa Applicants
On 10th December 2020, a new legislation has been brought into place which will enable provision of free English language tuition to partner visa applicants.

Applicants will now be able to access unlimited number of hours of English language tuition from functional level all the way upto vocational level from AMEP (Adult Migration English Program) services.
Flexibility will also be disbursed when imparting the tuition for applicants who might be working or have care giving responsibilities by using technology options such as online classes and on the job learning.
This change which was in the works for quite some time has been brought about to help migrants better integrate in the Australian society, as by learning English they are able to get jobs and become active members of the community.
PMSOL List Updated
Currently, Australia is prioritizing processing of applications for skilled migration and work visas for a select number of 18 occupations which are identified by National Skills Commission as being critical to supporting Australian economic recovery from Covid-19.
This list mostly focuses on occupations that are Health services, IT and Engineering sector oriented.

Recently, the occupation of Social Worker was also added to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List.
Applicants who currently work in general or trade occupations should take into consideration that the PMSOL list is not a complete skilled migration list for Australian immigration purposes and all states are yet to publish their finalised occupation lists for the financial year 2020-2021.
In the coming days all States are expected to make further announcements on their finalised occupation lists.
Recently, Pearson English Language Test (PTE) authority had released a report on the equivalence of PTE scores with IELTS scores.

Based on this report, PTE has adjusted its scores to better align with the IELTS standard scores.
In brief, the scores have been adjusted minutely
Competent Score: 46 in each component
Proficient Score: 66 in each component
Superior Score: 84 in each component
Important: It is vital to take note that this is just a published report from PTE as of now, the score requirements for Australian Immigration remain the same as they currently are until Australian Immigration announces any changes based on this report.
Current PTE score classification for Australian immigration remains the same as it has been for the past few years and is as mentioned below:
Competent Score: 50 in each component
Proficient Score: 65 in each component
Superior Score: 79 in each component
