Many eligible migrants are now looking at other alternatives to work visas to move to Australia and one possible option for any applicant looking to come to Australia for employment purposes can be the Training Visa (subclass 407).
Training visa is basically for those individuals who do not have enough work experience and are looking at upskilling themselves in their relevant field of work or want to visit Australia to complete a work place- based training or a professional development training program.

The visa granted is generally valid for 2 years and it gives the rights to the visa holder to work for the sponsoring employer with no specific limit on working hours.
Applicants can also add their immediate family members as dependents on an application for this visa or bring them subsequently after their visa has been granted.
There are 3 main types of occupational training that an applicant can apply for, these are listed below:
a) Occupational training to improve skills
This training is required for those individuals who may already have at least 12 months of full time experience in their occupation however, the training that they would undertake would help in upskilling them.

List of eligible skilled occupations for this occupational training group can be found here.
b) Occupational training for registration
This is a sort of training that is required for those occupations that require one to get workplace -based training to get occupational registration, membership or licensing either in Australia or in the trainee’s home country.

c) Occupational training for overseas capacity building
This type of training is more so for those individuals who are currently studying in a foreign educational institution and would benefit from a structured workplace-based training in Australia for upto 6 months and must undertake a specifically structured training program to get their qualification.

Overseas employers are also able to send their managerial or professional employees for face to face teaching in classroom or similar environment in Australia.
An employer registered with immigration as a sponsoring business can nominate an applicant for this visa.
Applicants who currently hold a training visa and wish to train under a different organization are also able to do so as long as the relevant organization submits a new nomination.
Applicants must also be able to prove that they can financially support themselves during the course of the training and should have at least functional level of English.

While the general idea for lodging a Training visa is for the applicant to undertake suitable training and return back to their home country however, there is nothing specifically that prevents them from applying for a work visa (482) or regional work visa (491) or even permanent residence visa.
Therefore, this visa can also offer suitable pathways for individuals to stay further in Australia.
