Below mentioned are the top 3 updates:
The last date of nomination, invitation and lodgement of Expression of Interest (EOI) for 489 Regional (Provisional) visa was the 10th September 2019.
Beyond this date acceptance and invitations for EOIs has ceased for this visa subclass.
The applicants who had received invitations for visa lodgement from immigration have until 15th November 2019 to lodge their visa application.
The new regional visas mentioned below will be replacing the 489 Visa:
1) 491 (Skilled Work Regional Provisional Visa)
2) 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional Visa)
From the 16th November 2019, interested applicants can lodge their Expression of Interest for the 491 visa and those who wish to utilize the employer sponsored 494 visa program can proceed with their application lodgement.
The number of general skilled migrants has dropped by 8000 compared with previous twelve months however, there has been 44% increase in number of visas granted under Regional Migration Scheme.
This clearly indicates that Australian immigration is prioritising Regional Visas in accordance with Government planning, which is focusing on addressing skill shortages and developing Regional areas of Australia.
The definition of Regional Australia is also going to be simplified and expanded in November 2019 to include all of Australia with the exception of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth.
145,000 citizenship applications by conferral have been approved between July 2018 and June 2019, this is highest number of applications being approved over the last 5 years.
This is nearly an 80% increase and stark contrast over the number of 81,000 applications approved between July 2017 and June 2018.
This has been brought about by an increase in investment of over $9 million on systems and staffing to focus on complex cases and increasing citizenship appointments for applicants.
