DAMA or “Designated Area Migration Agreement” is a formal agreement between Australian Government and regional, state or territory authority.
Through this program endorsed employers in regional areas can lodge labour agreements to sponsor skilled and semi skilled overseas workers in areas of labour shortages.
Upon approval of labour agreement, an overseas worker can then be hired by an employers.
It is important to note that the DAMA visa program provides many concessions for visa applicants which removes a significant number of hurdles in terms of applying for work visa and permanent residence visa applications. Some of these concessions are mentioned below.
One of the major advantages of the DAMA program is that the English language requirements are significantly lower.

For instance, certain occupations require an IELTS score of only 4.0 (or equivalent) for individual bands which helps a lot of candidates who might otherwise not be able to meet English requirements for regular work visa (482).
The same candidates will also find it easier to meet the English language requirements when applying for permanent residency through DAMA visa program, as the minimum requirement for certain occupations is a minimum score in IELTS of only 4.5 (or equivalent) for individual bands.
DAMA visa program also provides a major concession in the form of age concession.
If an applicant holds a work visa through the DAMA program then they can apply for permanent residency before they turn 50 years old, this is a stark difference in comparison to regular age limit cut off at 45 years of age for regular skilled migration or employer sponsored permanent residence visa options.

Therefore, as long as an individual is below 50 years of age, the DAMA visa program is the way to move forward with one’s permanent residence visa application.
Besides providing concessions for age and English language requirements, the DAMA program provides migration options for individuals who work in wide variety of occupations which are generally not listed under regular work visa program or general skilled migration program.

The occupation list of South Australian DAMA visa program has 3 main categories. These categories and their relevant occupation lists are mentioned below:
a) Regional Occupations
b) Metro Occupations
c) Agri Business Occupations
